OPTIMEX – Down-gauging without compromising quality
For the growing application of stand-up-pouches W&H presents its OPTIMEX as a 3-layer
blown film line producing a thin laminating film in Düsseldorf . In contrast to the 80 μm thick films commonly used for the application, the OPTIMEX produces a film with a thickness of only 60 μm and with excellent optics. The use of first-class raw materials creates a major potential for down-gauging while maintaining the same quality.
Stand-up pouches are currently experiencing a renaissance as a replacement for cans, bottles or glass containers and are a true growth segment. There are several reasons for this but two key factors are the weight and volume savings achieved when using flexible packaging instead of rigid packaging. In addition, successfully reducing the film thickness without compromising the quality makes a meaningful contribution toward resource-saving and sustainable production.
Special formula for ideal optics and downgauging potential
Working in close cooperation with the raw materials producer Total, W&H experts developed a special formula which is ideal for further processing to manufacture stand-up pouches. Due to the use of firstclass raw materials such as Super Tough, this film is distinguished by its outstanding visual characteristics together with its high downgauging potential.
Produced on the OPTIMEX
The film is produced on a 3-layer OPTIMEX with a working width of 1,800 mm and a 400 mm die. The line is equipped with the proven FILMATIC O dual winder. The OPTIMEX is the second series of blown film extrusion lines from Windmöller & Hölscher and is designed for the middle market segment. it is distinguished by its outstanding cost-performance ratio. Although sometimes referred to as the VAREX II's little sister, it definitely matches the larger system's quality.
