FFS Packaging Systems on Show at Powtech
27. – 29. 04. 2010
Hall 9, Stand 9-454
Having supplied more than 750 FFS (Form-Fill-Seal) packaging systems to date, Windmöller & Hölscher is an internationally leading manufacturer of machines and equipment for the bagging of free flowing, highly dusty and powdery as well as non-free flowing bulk goods. They will be presenting their current FFS machinery program at Powtech 2009. It encompasses three machines for different bulk good applications and varying output levels up to 2,400 sacks/h. The very successful high performance net weighing system rounds off the program, be it to supplement the FFS investment or upgrade existing bagging equipment.
The substitution of the highly economic FFS process for premade paper or plastic sacks is still gaining
in importance. Inline bag making, filling and sealing offers considerable advantages in terms of cost
and handling when compared with the traditionally separate processes of bag production, storage, transport, filling and sealing. Add to this, the packaging produced by the FFS process excels with high functionality such as improved product protection through extreme stability and tightness, attractive
goods presentation and extended shelf life.
Core element of the W&H FFS packaging machinery program is the TOPAS. Owing to its versatility, outstanding performance capability and reliability, the TOPAS has become the most frequently used FFS system in the world for the packaging of standard and engineering plastic resins, PVC powder, chemical base and intermediate products, food and pharmaceutical goods, fertilizers, filter sands, wooden pellets and a lot more.
The TOPAS can be tailored to most diverse packaging requirements with filling weights ranging from
5 kg to 50 kg. Depending on the properties of the products to be bagged and the required output,
different machine versions for varying output levels are available. As an alternative to the common
product weighing method, be it net or gross weighing, volumetric metering for filling volumes between
5 and 10 litres is available as an option. For consumer product packaging applications, the TOPAS comes in a special version featuring a handle punch unit and edge sealing, thus combining high convenience and optimum product presentation.
Because of its compact design, the TOPAS lends itself to mobile operation at large bagging terminals and can for this purpose be mounted on rails, wheels, or an air cushion system.
Contrary to the TOPAS which outstanding attribute is its versatility of applications, the DIAMANT is an extreme performance FFS machine designed for continuous operation at high speeds. Main applications include the bagging of fertilizers, chemical and petro-chemical bulk products calling for perfectly reliable and highly economical packaging systems.
Owing to the rotary operating principle of the bag filling section, the machine provides optimal conditions for longevity even in the roughest packaging environment. Intermediate storage of empty bags in the cooling system ensures perfect strength of the bottom seals permitting reliable filling in extremely short cycles. Its automatic roll change capability gives increased effective up-time resulting in higher bagging output.
While TOPAS and DIAMANT lend themselves to the bagging of free flowing products, the OPAL is
geared to handle powdery and non-free flowing products. The key to successful handling of even most demanding products is the auger dosing system including gross weigher, and the bottom-up filling concept. Controlled conveyance of the product – keeping air inclusion to the very minimum – is an important requirement when it comes to the bagging of very fine, dusty products and products which
tend to stick, bake or bridge and that up to now could not be handled with the FFS process.
Ideal supplement to the TOPAS and DIAMANT bagging lines is the W&H high performance weighing system. Offering high output, reliability and precision in the weighing of free flowing bulk goods, it is increasingly used to upgrade existing packaging systems.
The weigher features a high quality stainless steel construction resulting in long service life, perfect protection against aggressive products, and ease of cleaning. The dosing system with a specially designed servo driven shut-off slide guarantees exactly reproducible weighing results.
Various special configurations (such as a wash-up version or explosion-proof design) allow the
weigher to be tailored to any specific bagging situation and environment. In addition, it is perfectly
suited for use in logistics centers for the filling of Big Bags, Octabins or road tankers.
For maximum handling convenience, all settings and displays are integrated into the operator interface
of the FFS machine.
Windmöller & Hölscher is an internationally leading manufacturer of machinery and equipment for the flexible packaging industry and the only supplier worldwide to offer, in addition to FFS equipment, its
own program of dedicated blown film extrusion systems for FFS film applications, flexographic printing presses as well as the appropriate converting machines. In cooperation with qualified partners, W&H develops and implements turnkey logistic concepts including the planning, engineering and delivery of FFS packaging systems, palletizing equipment, materials handling systems, load securing and warehouse management systems.
The W&H-FFS machine program is but one element of the wide product spectrum encompassing flexographic and gravure printing presses, finishing machines, sack, bag and carrier bag making machines, blown and cast film extrusion lines as well as equipment for the conversion of woven plastic materials. |
