Reducing expenditures for resin: 5-layer is the new 3-layer

Reducing expenditures for resin: 5-layer is the new 3-layer

Developments in the market show that PE-based films will more and more be produced as 5-layer structures in the near future. These 5-layer films are either thinner than their 3-layer counterparts due to using higher quality resins which allow downgauging or alternatively the film thickness remains the same, but less expensive materials can be used.

Both lead to the same goal: reducing expenditures for resin that account for more than 80% of total film production costs. Stretch-hood films are one of the applications where 5-layer-structures perform better and cost less than customary ones. This and other applications can be shown live at the OPTIMEX and VAREX II in the extrusion technology center at W&H headquarters in Lengerich, Germany.
